Discovery School of Virginia

www.discoveryschool.org
Male and Female (separate locations) / Ages 11–17
Enrollment: approximately 50 boys and 20 girls

The Discovery School of Virginia operates as a for-profit small business that provides an affordable, quality emotional growth and academic program for boys and girls who are resistant to conventional therapeutic services. Firm guidance, clarified consequences and frequent opportunities for concrete successes are provided through basic living skills and group problem solving in an outdoor residential setting. Individualized instruction in the classroom with a strong emphasis on academic skill building and personal achievement prepares students for success in the more traditional educational settings. Supplementary participation in the on-campus Recovery Dynamics and the off-
campus recovery community has proven particularly effective for students with substance abuse issues. The goal of enrollment is that each student gains the motivation, self-esteem, maturity, self-control and problem solving skills he or she needs to
be successful in their family, school and community.
